Friends Fiduciary supports inquiry into railroad companies’ paid sick time benefits

January 26, 2023

Friends Fiduciary has joined other investors seeking more information from major rail transportation companies on their paid sick time policies. Investors are increasingly concerned with private sector workers in the US that do not have access to paid sick days. Friends Fiduciary signed on to three letters sent to Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific Railway and CSX. This issue not only addresses workers having to make the “impossible choice of risking their economic stability or their health and the public’s health when they are sick,” research has also shown that businesses providing paid sick days reduce turnover lowering the cost of interviewing and training new hires. Paid sick time can also be useful in recruiting and retaining employees as well. We believe paid sick time is crucial, not only for the business reasons above but for the rights and health of workers.
