FFC urges Environmental Protection Agency to strengthen heavy-duty vehicle standards

June 2, 2022

Friends Fiduciary has signed an investor letter urging the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to strengthen the proposed heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) standards. Transitioning to zero emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles is an important opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as a major economic opportunity as the “demand for zero-emissions trucks is growing with fleet owners and shippers increasingly committing to net zero goals.” Investors are concerned that the proposed EPA regulations are inconsistent with climate goals and the urgent need to improve air quality, with truck pollution disproportionally affecting disadvantaged communities. As the letter states, “robust truck standards are critical to meeting climate goals, ensuring the global competitiveness of the U.S. truck industry, and reducing air pollution in communities that have suffered too long from truck pollution.”
