FFC supports human rights in Iran

April 19, 2023

On September 16, 2022, Mahsa (Jina) Amini was killed by morality police for “improperly” wearing her hijab. Peaceful protests led by women following her death have been repressed by Iran’s security forces causing multiple arrests, injuries and deaths. Friends Fiduciary has joined fellow investors signing on to a statement, led by Investor Alliance Human Right (ICCR), standing in solidarity with the Iranian people and condemning “the Iranian Government’s use of violence and harassment against peaceful protesters.” Investors play an important role in ensuring corporate respect for human rights. Companies with direct or indirect business activities or relationships connected to Iran, should “take immediate steps to ensure the respect for human rights across their value chains” and align their operations with the UN Guiding Principles on Human Rights. A press release of the letter can be found here.
