FFC SUBMITS TESTIMONY TO PA DEP ON PROPOSED RULES FOR METHANE

June 26, 2020

Friends Fiduciary, along with a number of other investors, have advocated for strong methane emission regulation. Pennsylvania is the second largest producer of natural gas and so has a special responsibility to ensure that best practices are followed in its production and transport.  Methane is 84 times more potent that CO2 as a greenhouse gas and therefore without effective control of emissions, natural gas loses its benefits as a “bridge fuel” until a more complete transition to renewable energy can occur.

Perkins shared the business case for controlling methane emissions, noting that while some companies follow best practices many do not. Stronger regulation levels the playing field and protects the health and safety of Pennsylvanians and mitigates climate risk for businesses and investors.
